The Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT) is a neuropsychological assessment designed to evaluate a variety of cognitive processes, including short-term auditory-verbal memory, rate of learning, learning strategies, retroactive, and proactive interference, presence of confabulation or confusion in memory processes, retention of information, and differences between learning and retrieval.
The test involves the examiner reading a list of 15 unrelated words across five different trials and the participant is asked to recall as many words as they can after each trial. After the fifth trial, a new list of 15 words is read and the participant is asked to recall from this new list. Then, the participant is asked to recall words from the original list. A final recall test is conducted after a delay of approximately 20 minutes.
The RAVLT is a widely used tool in clinical and research settings to identify potential memory impairments and track changes in memory over time.
